About Best Project Model of Biomedical Engineering Departmental Stall
The best project model entitled “ELECTRONIC BIOHEART” supervised by Dr. Sandip Bag from Dept. of Biomedical Engineering in JISTech2K17 has greatly attracted and stirred the minds of academicians and dignitaries from other engineering colleges including JISCE and Medical Health-care Industries, respectively. Students of different schools were also impressed by this model. The judges have also encouraged biomedical engineering students to develop this type of models in future.

A TEQIP sponsored invited lecture on “Analysis of Human Brain Activity” was organized by Department of Biomedical Engineering on 29th July, 2016.
The objective of invited lecture was to enhance the knowledge of students by interacting with the external expert. Dr. Sudip Paul, Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering, North Eastern Hill University, Shillong was the invited speaker of that lecture session. He delivered his lecture in two parts:
Part-1: Study of the Human Brain Anatomy and Recording of EEG signal from the different regions of the brain.
Part-2: Development of Algorithms in MATLAB software which is incorporated the major changes of EEG signals.

A TEQIP sponsored national seminar on “Advancement Recent Trends in Biomedical Engineering Research” [NSRTBER-2016] was organized by Department of Biomedical Engineering on 11th May, 2016.
The objective of the seminar is to highlight the latest and the newest trends in Biomedical Engineering Research as Biomedical Engineering is one of the emerging and fastest growing subjects in engineering at present.
The resource person of the seminar was:
- Prof. Himadri Chattopadhyay, Dept. of Mechanical Engineering, Jadavpur University
- Dr Kunal Pal, Dept. of Biotechnology & Medical Engineering, NIT Rourkela.
Prof. Himadri Chattopadhyay delivered an informative lecture on Fundamental and Research trends in the field of biofluid mechanics. In his lecture Dr. Kunal Pal gives a wonderful speech on Advancement of EMG signal characterization and its application in Medical Robotics.
TEQIP Sponsored Student Seminar Competition on 20th April, 2016
A TEQIP sponsored Student Seminar Competition was organized by Department of Biomedical Engineering on 20th April, 2016.The objective of the Student Seminar Competition was to enhance the communication skill and to impart technical knowledge through interaction, in various domains of Biomedical Engineering as it is one of the interdisciplinary & emerging subjects in engineering at present.The external expert Dr. Sudip Paul, Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering, North Eastern Hill University, Shillong was the Humble Judge of this Competition. Best Speaker selection was made year wise from 2nd, 3rd. & 4th Year B. Tech. BME & one Best Speaker of the Event was awarded based on the judgement of internal & external experts.
Achievement in JISTech2k16
The Department of Biomedical Engineering of JIS College of Engineering exhibited highly innovative health care system related engineering models at its stall in JISTech 2K16. In Biomedical engineering stall, three superb engineering models namely, “SOUND OF MUSIC”, “PATIENT SAFETY USING ISOLATION” and “EFFICACY OF LUNGS THROUGH EXHALED PRESSURE” were exhibited. The department also arranged a Live Project designated as “LIVE HEALTH CHECK-UP CAMP” at the Medical Inspection Room of the Institute. All the faculty members, technical staff and 36 (25 Exhibitors + 11 Volunteers) Biomedical Engineering students (including B.Tech 1st year to 4th year and M.Tech 1st year) actively participated and brought a great vivacity and success in JISTech 2K16 on behalf of The Department of Biomedical Engineering, JIS College of Engineering, Kalyani.

“ADVANCEMENTS OF MEDICAL ELECTRONICS” [ICAME2015] on 29th & 30th January, 2015
The 1st International conference on “Advancements of Medical Electronics’ was organized at JIS College of Engineering Kalyani from January 29-30th 2015 by the Department of Biomedical Engineering and The Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering inviting participation from experts in respective fields which included Embedded Systems & its Applications in Healthcare , Medical Image Processing & Analysis, DSP & Clinical applications , Biomedical Instrumentation and Measurements. The Objective of the conference was to identify the immense scope of Medical Electronics in Industry , Academia and Research. The interdisciplinary nature of the Topic invited paper presentations from authors of Engineering Institutions all over the Globe . Prof. Yoshida and Prof. Ritenour expressed their immense satisfaction over the deliberations and lectures at the conference and congratulated the Organizers from JIS College of Engineering for coming up with a Conference of this stature. Mr. Taranjit Singh MD JIS Group expressed his sincere thanks to all the dignitaries and delegates who had come from different parts of the Globe to join the conference and make it an immense success.
The Conference was overwhelmed by the presence of Distinguished and eminent Professors like Hiro Yoshida from Harvard Medical School, Prof. E. Russell Ritenour from University of South Carolina, Prof. Manivannan from IIT Chennai, Prof. Manjunatha from IIT Kharagpur, Prof. Suman Chakraborty from SMST IIT Kharagpur and many more.
The Students arranged an Engineering Model Exhibition which was immensely appreciated by the dignitaries like Prof. Ajoy Ray, Director IIEST. Prof. S M Chatterjee mentined in his Distinguished Lecture that ‘Our expanding understanding of the role that biomedical application plays in every aspect of our life and affects health care motivated the mission of this conference.’

The Keynote Speech was delivered by Prof. Hiroyuki Yoshida of Director, 3D Imaging Research, Department of Radiology, MGH & Associate Professor of Radiology, Harvard Medical School on the Topic ‘Advancement of Diagnostic Imaging Decision Support Systems’, Prof. E. Russell Ritenour, Professor and Chief Medical Physicist, Dept. of Radiology and Radiological Sciences Medical University of South Carolina the Guest of Honour in the Conference delivered a Distinguished Lecture on the Topic ‘Magnetic Resonance Imaging Safety Issues at High Field Strength’. Other Distinguished Lectures were invited from Prof. M Manivannan, Professor IIT Madras & Chief Software Architect MIT Touchlab, Cambridge MA on the Topic ‘Robotics in Medical Education and Training’, Prof. Suman Chakraborty, IIT Kharagpur on the Topic: ‘Microfluidics for Healthcare’, Prof. Avijit Mookerjee, Emeritus Professor SN Bose National Centre for Basic Science on the Topic Nanostructures and many more.

A TEQIP sponsored national seminar on “Advancement in Biomaterials & Biomechanics” was organized by Department of Biomedical Engineering (NSABB-2013) on 12th July, 2013.
The objective of NSABB 2013 was to focus on the versatile research advancement in the field of Biomaterials and Biomechanics- two major research areas of Biomedical engineering.

The seminar was started at 11:30 am with the lighting of lamp by Prof. (Dr.) A Guha, Director of JIS group and other dignitaries. In his address Prof. Guha welcomes all the participants in the seminar and delivers a wonderful lecture on the awareness of Biomedical Engineering education. The theme of the seminar was discussed by Dr. Meghamala Dutta, Organizing Chair and HOD of BME Department. Prof. D N Tibarewala presents some important aspects of Biomedical Engineering research and Ms. Anwesha Khasnobish (Ph. D Scholar, JU) continued about the Human Computer interfacing (HCI). Dr. Kunal Pal delivers his lecture on “Organogels as matrices for delivery of bioactives: Mechanism of formation, Characterization and Applications”. An inspiring lecture was delivered by Dr. Amit Roy Chowdhury on “Application of Computer Aided Design & Computer Aided Manufacturing in Biomechanics”. The seminar was ended with vote of thanks and certificate distribution.

A TEQIP sponsored national seminar on “Application of Engineering in Medical Science” was organized by Department of Biomedical Engineering (NSAEMS-2013) on 21st August, 2013.
The objective of NSAEMS 2013 was to strengthen the bonding between engineering and medical science to provide effective and better care to mankind. The resource persons of the seminar were:

- Dr. Debashis Das, Opthalmologist & Vitreo-Retinal Surgeon, Eye Foundation and Research Centre, Kolkata
- Dr. Nirjhar Bhattacharya, Professor, Dept. of General Surgery, Nilratan Sarkar Medical College & Hospital, Kolkata.
The seminar was started at 11:00 am with the lighting of lamp by Prof. (Dr.) A Guha, Director of JIS group and other dignitaries. Prof. Guha addressed a warm welcome to all the participants in the seminar and delivered a wonderful lecture on the awareness of Biomedical Engineering education. The inaugural speech was delivered by Prof. U. Bandyopadhyay, Principal, JISCE. The theme of the seminar was discussed by Dr. Meghamala Dutta, Organizing Chair and HOD of BME Department. Prof. D N Tibarewala presented some important aspects of Biomedical Engineering research related to medical science and conducted the whole technical session as the Honorable Session Chair. Mr. U. S. Mukherjee, Deputy Director, JIS Group highlighted the importance of bridging the two different worlds of Medicine and Engineering for the benefit of future Biomedical engineers.

Two-Day Workshop on Analog System Design using ASLK (16-17th July, 2012)
The department of Biomedical Engineering organized a two day workshop on “Analog System Design using ASLK” in collaboration with TI India University Program and Cranes Software International limited. Mr. M Narendra Babu, Field Application Engineer of CSIL was the key resource person. The hands on training program were very effective and resourceful for the participants who in turn transmitted the expertise for the benefit of the students.

The National Seminar on Biomedical Engineering Research and Application: Present Day Scenario and the Future (BERA – 2011) is envisaged to open up windows for multidisciplinary interactions among the students, faculty members, R & D Community, Industry Personnel of Electrical, Electronics & Communication, Biomedical Instrumentation, Computer Science & Engineering and Information Technology. The Seminar BERA 2011 was organized by the Dept. of Biomedical Engineering, JISCE, Kalyani on 29th – 30 th July 2011 with financial support from AICTE and JIS Group. The seminar provides an ideal opportunity for the researchers from industry and academician, R & D laboratories to ignite students mind towards research and development and for faculty members and practicing engineers to share research outcomes and initiate collaboration in current areas of research relevant to the needs of the society.
A number of papers in the areas of Biomedical Instrumentation, Biomedical Signal Processing, Biomedical Imaging and Image Processing, Tissue Engineering, Healthcare System & Medical Technology, Biomaterials and Biomechanics were received. We have six invited lectures by eminent academicians and industry personnel from Siemens India Limited, Jadavpur University, Fortis Hospital & Quadra Diagnostics Ltd. We have over thirty five contributed papers which were presented in six oral sessions.
