“Archimedes will be remembered when Aeschylus is forgotten, because languages die and mathematical ideas do not” – G. H. Hardy
The Department of Mathematics is established along with the inception of the Institute. Since its establishment, this department has ever been striving to provide quality technical education with core support to all departments. To achieve such high standards it has extremely competent faculty members. It provides a good theoretical foundation through high quality teaching complemented by extensive practical training. Our graduates are trained to become experts and leaders in scientific and technological projects where mathematical modeling and computing issues are central, in industry or research.
Currently, applied mathematics is an area that provides many job opportunities, in industry and in the academic world. There is a great demand for mathematical engineers on topics such as scientific computation, big data analysis, imaging and computer graphics, with applications in many fields such as physics, medicine, biology, engineering, finance, environmental sciences.
The students are provided with ample opportunities to improve their organizational skills and group dynamics. They are motivated to handle seminars and to participate in group discussions. Apart from stressing on consistent and good academic performance, the department encourages participation in the curricular and extra-curricular activities to bring out the latest talents.
The vision of Department of Mathematics is to develop and maintain overall academic excellence in the educational and research activities carried out.
The mission of the Department of Mathematics is to impart the best quality education in mathematical fundamentals to all the students of the institute and to encourage in R&D work in the frontier areas of mathematical and computational sciences.
