Paper Name: Engineering Mechanics
Paper Code: ME-101
Objective:
Ability to draw complete and correctly labeled Free Body Diagrams of rigid bodies or systems of rigid bodies in static equilibrium, ability to compute the resultant of any number of concurrent forces in 2- or 3- dimensions, ability to compute the dot product and cross product of two vectors, and demonstrate, understanding of the meaning of the results, ability to solve particle equilibrium problems in 2- or 3- dimensions, ability to compute the moment generated by a force about any point in 2-D space and ability to find support reactions for truss and frame/machine problems, ability to reduce a system of forces acting on a rigid body to a single equivalent force and compute its point of application, Ability to solve rigid body equilibrium problems in 2- or 3-dimensions for statically determinate systems, ability to compute frictional forces for sliding motion and for belts/pulleys, ability to solve the tip/slip problem, ability to compute the centroid and the area moment of inertia of 2-D bodies using the method of composite areas, ability to construct shear force and bending moment diagrams for systems of concentrated forces and/or distributed loads acting on statically determinate beams, ability to solve for the internal forces acting on any member of a pin-jointed truss structure or a frame/machine component, Ability to find the centroid and area moment of inertia for 2-D shapes by the method of integration and ability to compute the moment about any axis in 3-D space generated by a force or a system of forces.

Paper Name: Engineering Materials
Paper Code: ME-202
Objective:
All the materials available in the world can’t be used for the manufacturing of machine parts and this why the students of mechanical engineering have to be made familiarized with the required materials called Engineering Materials. The objective of the subject is to give the students a clear idea of molecular or atomic structure of materials. Heat Treatment Processes of materials will also be taught the students to change the mechanical properties of the materials as per the requirement.

Outcome:
The students will be able to go for required heat treatment processes for various materials according to the need of specified job.

Paper Name: Strength of Materials
Paper Code: ME-301
Objective:
The prerequisite of this subject is Engineering Mechanics. The objective of this subject is to calculate different types of stresses like normal stress, shear stress etc. and corresponding stresses for various loading conditions both for static and dynamic parts of structures or machines.

Outcome:
The students will be able to calculate the various stresses and strains for different loading conditions of structures or machines. This subject is the prerequisite of Machine Design. Without getting proper knowledge in this subject the learning of Machine Design is impossible.

Paper Name: Engineering Thermodynamics
Paper Code: ME-302
Objective:
The objective of this course is to develop the idea of thermodynamics. The knowledge of thermodynamics is very much essential for the mechanical engineering students. The topics like first law of thermodynamics, second law of thermodynamics, concept of entropy, properties of pure substances, gas power cycles, vapour power cycles, refrigeration etc. are included in this subject. Knowledge of all these will help the students to learn the subjects like Power Plant Engineering, I.C. Engines & Gas Turbines, Heat & Mass Transfer etc.

Outcome:
Students will demonstrate a basic understanding of the nature of the Thermodynamic processes for pure substances and ideal gases. Students will demonstrate a basic understanding of the First Law of Thermodynamics and its application to systems and control volumes. Students will demonstrate a basic knowledge of the Second Law of Thermodynamics and its application to systems and control volumes. Student will demonstrate ability to use the First Law of Thermodynamics for energy conservation analysis of different Thermodynamics processes of systems and control volumes. Students will demonstrate ability to use the Second Law of Thermodynamics for entropy balance analysis of different Thermodynamics processes of systems and control volume. Students will demonstrate ability to evaluate the thermal performance of different heat engines and refrigeration cycles through the calculation of their thermal efficiency or coefficient of performance.

Paper Name: Fluid Mechanics

Objective:
The objective of this course is to develop knowledge of fluid mechanics. The course will include the following topics of discussion: fluid statics, the Bernoulli’ equation, mass, momentum, energy conservation, dimensional analysis, similitude, internal and external flows as well as laminar and turbulent boundary layer flows are covered.

Outcome:
This is a first course in fluid mechanics. Typically, students taking this class come from various engineering departments. In this course the students will learn the following: develop a logical approach to solving engineering problems, detect the type of problems that can be solved with simple analytical processes, apply knowledge learned from math, physics, and statics to solve fluid flow problems, learn how to apply simplifications and assumptions, gain an appreciation of the fact that we are surrounded by fluid mechanics in everyday life The study of fluids and their motion is an enormous filed and there are many areas which are still not yet fully understood, such as the modeling of turbulence.

Paper Name: Primary Manufacturing Processes
Paper Code: ME-304
Objective:
Prerequisite of this subject is the knowledge of Engineering Materials. In the subject of Primary Manufacturing Processes students will be taught about the basic manufacturing processes like casting, forging, extrusion, rolling etc.

Outcome:
Students will learn about the selection procedure of material to be used for a specified product and also the required manufacturing processes to be employed for product.

Paper Name: Mechanisms
Paper Code: ME-401
Objective:
The objective of this subject is to familiarize the students with the basic mechanisms of machines used in industries. Also belt & rope drives, gears etc. will be taught for the knowledge of various machine parts.

Outcome:
Students will be able to design required mechanisms for a machine. They will also be able to calculate various parameters of the machine parts.

Paper Name: Power Plant Engineering
Paper Code: ME-402
Objective:
The objective of this subject is to teach the students with different machines used in thermal power plants such as boilers, steam turbines, gas turbines, condensers etc.

Outcome:
The students will learn the operating procedure of a thermal power plant and also the details of different machineries used in such power plants. They will be able to plan for a thermal power plant to some extent.

Paper Name: Fluid Machinery
Paper Code: ME-403
Objective:
The prerequisite of this subject is Fluid Mechanics. The students will learn topics like working principles of Hydraulic Turbines, Reciprocating Pumps and Centrifugal Pumps. to get an idea about Fluid Machinery.

Outcome:
On learning this subject students will be able to select a turbine or a pump etc. depending upon the availability of resources and requirement of the project in hand. Also students will be able to calculate various parameters like efficiency, specific speed etc. To some extent the students will get expertise about the design methodologies of Fluid Machinery.

Paper Name: Metrology & Measurement
Paper Code: ME-501
Objective:
Metrology is the science of measurement. Measurement of anything like length, angle, roughness, deflection, velocity of fluid at a point etc. is highly necessary for almost all the fields of engineering. Also the limits of accuracy for various instruments are also included in the subject matter of Metrology & Measurement.

Outcome:
Students will be able to conduct any experiment of mechanical engineering accurately since for any experiment measurement of length, angle, deflection etc. is required. The high level of accuracy in the measurements will give high level of accurate results and hence the degree of analysis of the results will be perfect.

Paper Name: Machine Design – I & II
Paper Code: ME-502 & ME-602
Objective:
Prerequisite of this subject is the knowledge of Theory of Machines and Strength of Materials. If the students are familiar with the subject of Theory of Machines and Strength of Materials they can readily start learning Machine Design. The entire syllabi of Machine Design have been divided into two parts. Students will learn the selection of materials for a machine element depending upon the various loading conditions. Examples are knuckle joint, cotter joint, cam, shaft etc. Emphasis will be given on the analysis of stress, strain etc.

 

Outcome:
Outcome of this subject is very straight forward. Until and unless the students learn this subject, they won’t be able to design any machine element starting from simplest to toughest one. In the first part of Machine Design the students will learn the selection and analysis of mechanisms needed for a specified job. In the second part of the same thing they will learn the selection of material required for a machine member and also the design technique of the same.

Paper Name: Dynamics of Machines
Paper Code: ME-504
Objective:
The aim of this subject is to introduce the students about the basic concept of vibration analysis, cam, flywheel, gyroscopes etc. This knowledge is highly required for the subject of Machine Design.
Outcome:
On learning the subject Dynamics of Machines which is actually the second part of the subject Mechanisms the students will be able to design flywheel, cam etc. which are required for various machineries.

Paper Name: Thermal Engineering
Paper Code: ME-601
Objective:
The objective of this subject is to teach the students the construction of various parts of an I. C. Engine and their functions. Gas turbines will also be taught in this subject.
Outcome:
The students will be able to design I. C. Engines depending upon the requirements. They also will be able to do final year project on such highly demanding subject area.

Paper Name: Heat & Mass Transfer
Paper Code: ME-603
Objective:
This course is designed to introduce a basic study of the phenomena of heat and mass transfer, to develop methodologies for solving a wide variety of practical engineering problems, and to provide useful information concerning the performance and design of particular systems and processes. A knowledge-based design problem requiring the formulations of solid conduction and fluid convection and the technique of numerical computation progressively elucidated in different chapters will be assigned and studied in detail. As well, to gain experience in designing experiments for thermal systems, the design, fabrication, and experimentation of a thin film heat flux gage will be attempted as part of laboratory requirements.

Outcome:
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to understand the basic laws of heat transfer, account for the consequence of heat transfer in thermal analyses of engineering systems, analyze problems involving steady state heat conduction in simple geometries, develop solutions for transient heat conduction in simple geometries, obtain numerical solutions for conduction and radiation heat transfer problems, understand the fundamentals of convective heat transfer process, evaluate heat transfer coefficients for natural convection, evaluate heat transfer coefficients for forced convection inside ducts, evaluate heat transfer coefficients for forced convection over exterior surfaces, analyze heat exchanger performance by using the method of log mean temperature difference, analyze heat exchanger performance by using the method of heat exchanger, effectiveness, calculate radiation heat transfer between black body surfaces, calculate radiation heat exchange between gray body surfaces.

 

Paper Name: Advanced Manufacturing Technology
Paper Code: ME-604
Objective:
The aim of this subject is to introduce the students with advanced manufacturing technologies developed so far such as electro discharge machining, chemical machining, laser cutting, plasma arc cutting etc.
Outcome:
The students will be able to select a required manufacturing process for assigned product. They will also be able to analyze the quality of the product manufactured by using any technology.

 
Paper Name: Materials Handling
Paper Code: ME-605
Objective:
The objective of this subject is to introduce the students about materials handling methods used in industries such as belt conveyors, chain conveyors, pulleys, screw conveyors etc.
Outcome:
The students will be able to design any conveyor required for transport of any type of materials such as liquids, solids, powders etc.

Paper Name: Mechatronics
Paper Code: ME-701
Objective:
The aim of this subject is to give a basic idea about the mechatronic systems used in industries. To teach this subject a basic knowledge of mechanical engineering and electronics engineering is necessary. Transducers, microprocessors etc. will be taught in this subject as electronics part of mechatronic system.
Outcome:
The students will be able to feel the importance of this subject as mechanical engineering students. They will be able to understand the need of the subject for industries. To some extent they will be able to design the basic circuit of a mechatronic system.

Paper Name: Industrial Engineering

Objective:
The aim of this subject is to teach the students with the basic knowledge of operations research and industrial management.
Outcome:
The students will be able to do managerial works assigned to them in industries.
