Desk from Head of Department

It gives me immense pleasure in welcoming, on behalf of the Department of Electrical Engineering at JIS College of Engineering, Kalyani. The Department established in 2000, running UG program since 2000 and PG programs in Electrical Devices & Power Systems since 2005. It has 16 years long history of technical education. Electrical engineers produced by this department have contributed to industrial development over the last 15 years at national and international level. The department offers core courses in Power Systems, Control Systems, Electrical Machines, Instrumentation, Switchgear and Industrial Protection, Microprocessors and Microcontrollers etc. Apart from these, the final year students can choose from a wide array of electives in the form of Advanced Power Systems, Power generation & Economics, High Voltage Engineering, HVDC Transmission etc. In coordination with the highly stimulating lectures and quality enhancing tutorials in these courses, various practical courses are also held in the state-of-the-art Lab facilities of the department like Machine Lab, Power System Lab, Control System Lab, Power Electronics & Drives Lab, Measurement Lab, Circuit Theory Lab, to name a few. World class software like MATLAB, Simu-link, PSCAD, ANSYS (LF), ETAP, MULTISIM, PSIM, Lab view, are available in the department to work on top-of-the line projects in various areas of electrical engineering. The department is always enthusiastic in conducting various seminars and workshops for the faculty and students to permeate advances in technology. All undergraduate and postgraduate thereby get full opportunity to participate in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities leading to a holistic personality development.

The research activities of our faculty lead to an exceptional enrichment of the experience of our students that is perceived at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. The Department of Electrical Engineering is also having Smart Solar Laboratory in Smart Renewable Energy Systems (SRES). The department also has strong alumni with 200 strong members. Cultural events for the students are never sparse along with quizzes, aptitude tests, presentations and industrial tours which are organised to bring the best out of a today's Electrical Engineer.
