The Agricultural Engineering education integrates Engineering and Agricultural science, knowledge and skill to develop technology and its process to increase production and productivity of agriculture and other farm produces through efficient utilization of natural resources and conserving the same for future use. Broadly, the activities include efficient utilization of agricultural inputs through improved implements and machinery, ensuring timeliness in farming operation (mechanization), management of soil and water with their efficient use, reducing drudgery in agriculture and improving quality farm produce (processing and value addition). With the advancement of Agriculture, the education of Agricultural Engineering has also been gradually developed and taken a definite shape through inclusion of theoretical as well as practical courses in multi direction in the fields of Farm power and Machineries, Soil & Water Engineering, Irrigation and Drainage Engineering, Aquacultural Engineering, Farm Development and management, Food Processing and Preservation, Packaging Technology, Post-Harvest Engineering, Marketing and sales, Computer Application etc. Accordingly, the demands of Agricultural Engineers are gradually increasing in all above areas.
It is in view of their demand, the JIS College of Engineering has started B.Tech (Agril. Engg.) programme since July 2021. The course structures and curriculum includes the various facilities of Laboratories & Workshop as per requirement of the AICTE. Latest software based technologies have been included in the courses of the aforesaid B. Tech programme. Students are updated with the latest theoretical and practical knowledge through the classroom Teaching, Laboratories, Workshops, Seminars, Industrial Trainings, and Educational Tours etc. All kinds of efforts are made to make each and every student suitable for working in public sector as well as in private sectors.
The course curriculums are based on the latest technology in the relevant fields and guidelines made by I.C.A.R and A.I.C.T.E.
The graduate passing out with their B. Tech. programme in Agricultural Engineering have tremendous scope for higher education at M. Tech level with specialization in Farm Machinery and Power, Soil and Water Engineering, Irrigation and Drainage Engineering, Process and food Engineering, Aquacultural Engineering etc. The Post-graduation may also be done in Packaging Technology and other allied branches which has a huge growing demand and scope for placement. The graduates passing out with B. Tech (Agril. Engg.) may have job opportunities in the Tractors Industries, Farm equipment manufacturing Industries, irrigation equipment manufacturing companies, Cold storage and Food Processing Industries. In addition, they may also have an opportunity to serve the Government Departments like Agri-mechanical and Agri-Irrigation sector. The state agro industries of the State Government in the country have enough scope to absorb these graduates to serve the Nation. They may also have an opportunity to appear in IFS (Indian Forest Services) examination and join as Forest Officers. Tremendous scope has been observed in the Banking services too for the graduate passing out with B. Tech.(Agril. Engg.) Programme. Several NGO’s dealing with agricultural machineries are also recruiting Agricultural Engineers. In corporate sector, Seed Processing Industries, Food Processing Industries, Plant Protection equipment manufacturing companies etc. have a tremendous demand. With the support of State and Central Government subsidy the Agri-Business may also be started and may become a good entrepreneur related to Agro-Machineries.
